PACH and Frontera Fund for Human Rights

PACH stands for Phoenix Allies for Community Health. It is an organization that has been around for a handful of years. Phoenix Allies for Community Health is a non-profit organization. The activities are moving forward thanks to volunteers such as staff members, nurses, doctors, and more.

The Phoenix Allies for Community Health was created in order to assist undocumented immigrants who are uninsured and are working jobs that pay too little for them to visit a clinic. People in such situations are common. Often they will have illnesses such as diabetes and will be able to afford neither medical attention nor medicine.

Larkin and Lacey often have to pay at least a hundred dollars up front if they want to receive medical care. The Phoenix Allies for Community Health helps undocumented immigrants and refugees with free health care. The services are available to poor working people as well.

The volunteer nurses and doctors working at PACH are bilingual. Both the nurses and the physicians are available for house calls. On average, PACH takes care of 30 to 40 patients on a weekly basis. The patients go to the west clinic in Phoenix. Of course, if they are not able to get there for an appointment they can schedule a house call.

Something unique about the health care that PACH provides emotional support that the physicians and nurses offer their patients. For the patients, emotional health has a lot to do with the physical well being. A good talk can be of a lot of help as well.

The Phoenix Allies for Community Health accepts donations by individuals and organizations. Some of the patients also make donations when they have a few extra dollars to spare. One of the many supporters of the Phoenix Allies for Community Health is a foundation that is also based in Phoenix, Arizona.

It is the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. The Frontera Fund was started up to support organizations like PACH in Arizona. The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund has been around for about five years. It carries the name of the two founders – Mr. Michael Lacey and Mr. Jim Larkin. The two founders are journalists. They have been working together for a long time, and they have even collaborated on establishing two media sources for Phoenix news.

Mr. Michael Lacey and Mr. Jim Larkin were working on a case that was concluded towards the end of 2007. In October that year, the two journalists were arrested by order of the man they had exposed for overstepping his rights.

The sheriff of the Maricopa County Joe Arpaio had Lacey and Larkin arrested. They were released a few days later. They also filed a court case against the county. The situation resulted in favor of the two journalists.

They agreed to a settlement amounting to $3.75 million. The money was more than enough to start the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund as well as to start supporting organizations based in the state of Arizona. Frontera Fund supports groups that protect human rights.
