Business man and entrepreneur Mike Baur, the founder of Swiss StartUp Factory, is a man of many talents. Equipped with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Finance and Banking from the University Of Applied Science Bern, a master of business from the University of Rochester and an executive master of business administration from Universitat Bern, Mike has served in several capacities in various industries.
Mike started out in the Swiss banking industry before he quit and ventured into entrepreneurship before finally co-founding Swiss startup factory with two partners, Oliver Walzer and Mark Meitzer. Together with his partners, Mike saw Swiss StartUp Factory through, the investing in startups, partnering with CTI, Gold Bank and Fintech Fusion. Since April 2017, Mike has been the executive director at the Swiss StartUp Group AG.
Mike Baur started out at UBS, a Swiss financial services company based in Zurich. Mike started out as an apprentice at the Union bank of Switzerland. Baur was later promoted to an advisory position at the bank, all these before the age of thirty. As an advisor, Mike gave wise words to some of Switzerland’s richest people on matters finance and investment and wealth management.
Despite his lucrative career and numerous prospects, Mike quit his job at UBS in 2008. He later went on to work for Clariden Leu, a Swiss private bank, as the business area head of private banking in Switzerland. Mike Baur was later promoted to head private banking for Clariden Leu in Switzerland. Mike worked for Clariden Leu up until September 2012. Mike then moved onto his next job as the head of private banking at Salifort Privatbnk AG until 2014 when he finally decided to venture into the startup business.
The post-recession environment in Switzerland in 2014 made banking less appealing to Mike Baur and the wealth management expert decided to channel his passion of helping tech startup entrepreneurs. At Swiss StartUp Factory, the incubator program sees to the mentorship and training aimed at aiding Swiss entrepreneurs. The organization also provides investment to promising pitched ideas and offers their owners rent free office space in Switzerland’s largest city.
Aside from Swiss StartUp Factory, Mike has diversified his career creating a new firm called thinkreloaded. At think reloaded Mike offers investment and wealth management advice to affluent clients. Recommendations from think reloaded have seen entrepreneurs secure financing from major banks in Switzerland and helped Mike see his passion of helping others grow.
