Dr. Jim Toner uses his expertise to help patients deal with fertility issues. A board-certified specialist in the areas of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, he is today part of the Atlanta Center for Reproductive Medicine (ACRM).
After graduating from Philadelphia’s St. Joseph’s College with a degree in psychology, Toner entered the medical scientist training program at the University of Pennsylvania. It was from there that he earned his both medical degree and his doctorate in psychology, graduating in 1985. His subsequent residency and fellowship training was conducted at the Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, in Norfolk, Va., and under the guidance of Dr. Howard Jones, founder of the facility. Honored for his teaching ability while still in training at the Jones Institute, Toner received a Resident of the Year Award in 1989 and, the following year, was inducted into the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha. He would serve on the regular faculty at the Norfolk facility for 15 years, eventually rising to the position of associate professor.
In his current service to the ACRM, Toner specializes in the treatment of both fertility issues and women who experience recurrent miscarriages. His background in psychology enables him to also treat the psychological issues that are often associated with infertility. He is known for providing an individualized treatment plan that focuses on the problems of each patient. His abilities are reflected in the reviews of his patients, who give him high marks for the way he answers their questions and addresses their health needs.
Toner has published some 200 articles, abstracted writings and chapters on reproductive medical issues. However, he is best known for his extensive study of ovarian reserve matters and how they affect infertility in general. His contributions to reproductive medicine has won him awards from such organizations as the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Fertility Society. In addition to his writings, Toner has conducted more than 200 presentations throughout the country.
